A Journey Back to Joy
Then something unexpected happened.
When I joined TikTok, I discovered a world filled with talented artists and colorists from all walks of life. People were sharing beautiful pages filled with vibrant colors, creative techniques, and unique styles. Some used colored pencils, some used alcohol markers, and others combined different mediums to create stunning works of art.
As I watched their videos, I found myself smiling. Not because I wanted to compare my work to theirs, but because it reminded me of the joy I felt as a child sitting at the table with a coloring book and a box of crayons.
One thing I have learned is that ART is personal.
I do not give negative reviews about anyone's coloring because we all see art differently. What one person sees as beautiful, another person may see differently, and that is perfectly okay. Art is not about perfection. Art is about expression. It is about bringing your own vision to life through color.
Then the realization inspired me to pick up coloring again.
At first, I was surprised by how much the coloring world had changed. There are now countless brands of colored pencils, markers, gel pens, and specialty papers. Techniques that were once known only by professional artists are now shared freely online for everyone to learn.
For the past seven months, I have been exploring this colorful world once again. I have experimented with different brands of pencils and markers, tested blending techniques, and learned new ways to bring pages to life.
But something even more important happened.
I discovered that coloring was relaxing.
In a world that often feels rushed and noisy, coloring gives me a moment of peace. It allows me to slow down, focus on the present moment, and quiet my mind. The simple act of choosing colors and filling a page has become a form of self-care.
For me, coloring is more than a hobby. It is a reminder that we are never too old to reconnect with the things that once brought us joy.
That is why I decided to create “Color with Grace.
Through my morning prayer and coloring videos, I hope to encourage others to slow down, find peace, and embrace creativity. Whether you are an experienced artist or someone picking up colored pencils for the first time in years, there is a place for you in this journey.
Coloring is not about creating a masterpiece.
It is about creating moments of peace.
It is about giving yourself permission to relax.
It is about remembering that joy can often be found in the simplest things.
Sometimes all it takes is a coloring page, a handful of coloring pencils, and a little grace.
And perhaps, just like that little girl in 1977 who dreamed of winning a coloring contest, you may discover that some childhood joys are worth revisiting.
